The use of muscle relaxing injections

The products used are medicines injected into the muscles and has a local effect of reducing muscle action. It has been used for over 20 years on thousands of patients to treat many neurological and eye disorders as well as reduction of wrinkles. It is a prescription drug which should only be used under medical supervision.

It works by blocking nerve transmission between the nerve endings and the muscle fibres around the injection site to relax the muscle so that they don’t contract. The untreated facial muscles contract in the normal way, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected. The aim is to break the habit of frowning. Over a year or two the excessive frowning habit can be broken. The commonly affected areas include forehead lines, frown lines between the eye brows and  crows feet at the corners of the eyes.

Treatment does not take very long – usually about 20 minutes. The first effects start after about a few days and the complete effect is visible in 2 weeks. The effects of the treatment last 3 months. Clinical studies indicate that treatments last longer over time so that you should require fewer injections in the future. However, this varies from patient to patient
